Artist Bio

Brian is a local artist who lives off-grid in the upper Tunk Valley out of Riverside, WA. The works you see on display were done on stretched canvas using Golden Series Interference paints. These works are intended to be viewed from multiple angles in multiple lighting scenarios and reflect his passion for the natural blending of color and the creation of random patterns, designs, and shapes often achieved through rapid-form abstract painting.

Originally from a small rural town called Chittenango, in Upstate NY, Brian came west in the early 90s and studied at Lewis and Clark College in Portland where he holds a Bachelor of Science in Botany and Plant Physiology. It was during this period that he first explored the arts and became quite proficient at the potter’s wheel and working with clay.

In the late 90s, Brian relocated to Seattle where he attended the Master’s program at the Information School at the University of Washington. After graduating from the UW in 1999, Brian worked at Microsoft in Redmond for several years before joining a “startup” and riding the “dot com” boom and bust cycle for the better part of a decade. During this time, he lived in the Eastlake/Lake Union neighborhood in Seattle, and co-owned and managed 3 apartment buildings.

Brian moved to the upper Tunk Valley after seeing the call for volunteers to help fight the wildfires in 2015 and found himself helping manage information operations at community/volunteer shelter at the Tunk Valley Grange Hall during the Tunk Block Fire. Brian lives on 40 acres of land he is developing as a ranch.
