This is a genuinely unusual specimen — a Bridgesii Monstrose hybrid (SS02 x Einsteinii) growing in a 3.5-inch pot, presenting two distinct columnar stems rising from a shared root system. The taller stem has been cut and is callusing cleanly, while a fat, multi-lobed monstrose offset has erupted from the base of the cut with spectacular energy — its deeply segmented, bright green crown looking almost like a tiny bouquet of rounded lobes. The second column stands tall and smooth with scattered spines. The whole composition is surrounded by stones collected locally here in the Tunk Valley, giving it a natural, grounded character. This is a grafted or cutting-rooted piece with strong, healthy tissue and active new growth — a collector's hybrid with serious genetic lineage. Bridgesii Monstrose cacti thrive in bright, direct light — a south-facing window or outdoor exposure during warm months is ideal. Water sparingly and only when the soil is completely dry; these plants are highly rot-prone if overwatered, especially in cool weather. A very fast-draining mix of cactus soil cut with perlite or pumice is essential. They are best grown in USDA zones 9–11 outdoors, but do beautifully as indoor or greenhouse specimens anywhere. Care level is moderate — they reward attentive growers who respect their need for light and dryness over coddling. This particular plant was grown and tended at 3,600 feet in the Tunk Valley on Brian's off-grid homestead — a testament to what patience and a warm indoor growing space can produce at high desert elevation. The monstrose growth emerging from the cut stem is a sign of real vitality, and whoever takes this one home is getting a living piece of cactus craft.
