CactusSan Pedro Cactus
Echinopsis pachanoi (syn. Trichocereus pachanoi)
$18
This San Pedro is a vigorous, upright columnar cactus with deep green skin, broad rounded ribs, and evenly spaced areoles bearing short cream-colored spines. The photos show a healthy, well-established cutting that has rooted and is actively growing — you can see the bright new growth at the tip and the slightly leaning character that gives it an organic, lived-in look. Nestled among smooth river stones in a sturdy nursery pot, it carries that high-desert aesthetic with ease. San Pedro is one of the more forgiving columnar cacti you can grow. It thrives in full sun but tolerates bright indirect light indoors, making it adaptable for windowsill or porch growing. Water deeply but infrequently — let the soil dry out completely between waterings. A well-draining gritty mix is essential. It's cold-hardy down to about 15–20°F with some protection, which makes it surprisingly viable in high-altitude settings with shelter. Difficulty is low to moderate; it's often recommended as a first columnar cactus. Up here in the Tunk Valley at 3,600 feet, this San Pedro spends its growing season soaking up long sunny days and cool nights in the greenhouse — conditions that suit it surprisingly well. It's a living reminder that the high desert and the Okanogan highlands share more than you'd expect.
