CactusTrichocereus / Echinopsis Columnar Cactus
Trichocereus pachanoi or hybrid (San Pedro type)
$18
These are robust, deep blue-green columnar cacti with pronounced ribs lined with clusters of amber-brown spines. The photos show a classic upright columnar specimen standing several inches tall with thick, waxy, blue-green flesh. Thus specimen can carry that characteristic Trichocereus presence — waxy skin, confident spination, and a color that shifts from sage to deep teal depending on the light. It is potted in gritty rock-topped mix in plastic nursery pot. Trichocereus cacti are among the most forgiving and rewarding columnar cacti you can grow. They thrive in full sun, tolerate a wide range of temperatures, and are surprisingly cold-hardy for a columnar — some clones handle light freezes down to the low 20s°F with proper drainage. Water deeply but infrequently during the growing season and keep nearly dry in winter. Plant in fast-draining cactus or pumice-heavy mix. This is low-maintenance once established, making it excellent for beginners and serious collectors alike. Indoors, place in your sunniest south-facing window or under grow lights. Up here in the Tunk Valley, we grow these in containers and bring them into the greenhouse before the hard freezes roll in off the Cascades. They spend their summers soaking up our intense high-desert sun and putting on serious growth — a well-watered Trichocereus in summer can push inches of new growth in a single season. If you've been looking for a statement cactus with deep roots and real character, this is it.
