This is a beautifully formed natural amethyst crystal point from Madagascar, displaying a rich warm amber-brown hue with rosy undertones — the result of iron oxide surface coating that has developed over time, giving the crystal an earthy, ancient character. The specimen exhibits excellent hexagonal prismatic form with well-developed termination faces and a secondary partial termination at the base, suggesting it may have been a doubly-terminated or scepter-adjacent form. Under backlighting, the crystal glows with a warm translucent inner light, revealing its quartz clarity beneath the iron-stained exterior. The faces show natural growth striations and some surface etching, all hallmarks of a genuine field-collected specimen. Madagascar is world-renowned for producing exceptional quartz and amethyst specimens from its ancient Precambrian pegmatite and hydrothermal vein systems. The iron-rich geological environment of the island imparts these characteristic warm reddish-brown surface stains on many specimens — a perfectly natural process called "ferruginization" where iron-bearing groundwater deposits hematite or goethite over the crystal faces during or after formation. This specimen's unusual coloring makes it stand out from the typical purple amethyst — it is a geological conversation piece in its own right, showing the dynamic post-growth chemistry of its environment. This specimen comes directly from the Chase W. Barnett mineral collection and is now part of Brian Eisenberg's curated collection at Iron Mountain Ranch in the Tunk Valley. It carries the story of two passionate collectors and the ancient volcanic island where it formed.
