Quartz 'ICE' Crystal Cluster
Quartz
$45
This extraordinary specimen is a dense, intergrown cluster of hyper-clear quartz crystals so glassy and brilliant they genuinely resemble a frozen chunk of mountain ice — hence the collector nickname 'ICE' quartz. Multiple crystal terminations jut and interlock at dramatic angles, creating a wild, architectural form with razor-sharp internal reflections that catch light from every direction. The clarity is remarkable: you can see deep into the crystal mass, where internal fracture planes and growth phantoms scatter light like frozen lightning. Small pockets and natural cavities between crystals add sculptural depth, and faint silvery-gray inclusions give the interior a cool, glacial quality that perfectly earns its icy name. Pakistan is one of the world's premier sources for exceptional quartz clarity, particularly from the high-altitude pegmatite veins of the Himalayan and Karakoram ranges. These crystals form in hydrothermal environments under extreme pressure and slow cooling — conditions that allow silicon dioxide to achieve near-gem-level transparency. The intergrown cluster habit seen here results from simultaneous crystal growth competing for space, producing the chaotic, spiky, multi-directional form that makes Pakistani quartz so visually dramatic. The lack of color interference and the glass-like clarity suggest extremely pure SiO2 with minimal trace element contamination. This specimen comes from the renowned Chase W. Barnett mineral collection, lending it excellent provenance as a curated, intentionally sourced piece. It now resides in Brian's collection at Iron Mountain Ranch in the Tunk Valley — a true mountain crystal for a mountain homestead.
