Yellow-Green Fluorite Crystal Cluster
Fluorite
$28
This captivating specimen is a natural cluster of intergrown fluorite crystals displaying a soft, translucent pale yellow-green hue — sometimes called 'lemon fluorite' or 'chartreuse fluorite' by collectors. The individual crystals show classic cubic fluorite form, though many surfaces have a rounded, botryoidal quality from overlapping crystal growth faces, giving the cluster an organic, almost grape-like texture. Scattered dark mineral inclusions dot the interior, adding visual depth to the glassy translucency, while patches of cream-colored matrix and iron-stained material at the base give it an authentic, field-collected character. This is a tactile, beautiful piece that rewards close inspection. Fluorite (calcium fluoride, CaF₂) forms in hydrothermal veins and in contact metamorphic zones, often alongside calcite, quartz, and sulfide minerals. The Azusa area of the San Gabriel Mountains in Southern California is known for its complex geology including granite intrusions and mineralized fracture zones where fluorite can precipitate from fluorine-rich hydrothermal fluids. The pale yellow-green color in fluorite is typically caused by trace rare earth elements or natural irradiation effects within the crystal lattice. Fluorite's perfect octahedral cleavage — visible in the stepped, layered surfaces across this cluster — is one of its most defining and beautiful characteristics. This specimen comes from Brian Eisenberg's traded mineral collection at Iron Mountain Ranch and represents a classic Southern California locality piece. It is a wonderful complement to any Pacific Northwest or regional mineral collection, and a great example of the fluorite family in its natural, unpolished glory.
